Sunshine Villa Florida

How staying in a vacation home on your next Disney vacation will save you money (and your sanity)

saving money in a vacation home

Walt Disney World can be described as many things: Magical, whimsical, delightful, fun, exciting, exhilarating to name just a few.   But cheap is not one of them. Especially when it comes to travelling with families.  We’re here to tell you how you can save money (and your sanity) by staying in a vacation rental like Sunshine Villa Florida.

Booking direct

Booking direct is the sure fire way to yield our lowest rates. Big travel sites charge the guest and owners booking fees.  Why give this money to those sites when the booking fees you will save by booking directly can go towards other things like parking, souvenirs or snacks. Always #bookdirect

Space

More space = less money? You may be surprised to learn that this is accurate.  You can find vacation homes for less than the cost of a value resort. Why is a home better? To me, spending my downtime after a long day at the parks in a cramped hotel room with kids is not my idea of relaxation or fun. With a vacation home, children and parents will have their own rooms and bathrooms. Some homes are even large enough to fit 2 families (like ours) allowing families to share in the rental costs.

Downtime

Day after day, hour after hour in the Walt Disney World parks can take its toll on the little ones- not to mention the adults! We’re exhausted, it’s hot, everything is sore and kids will have meltdowns. The easiest way to combat the meltdown is to take time away from the theme parks. In the past, we have left the park mid-afternoon to come back home to recharge either by taking a nap, or cooling down in the pool before heading back for the fireworks.  Taking an entire day away from the parks is also a good idea.  With all the onsite amenities that we have to offer, like the slide and lazy river the kids won’t complain they aren’t at the parks.

Meals

Remember, unless you score free dining food comes at a premium price when staying onsite. Don’t waste your precious time waiting in line ups to get you & your family food. Prepare and eat breakfast in our fully equipped kitchen before you head out to the parks.

Buying food in the parks is costly.  With a fully equipped kitchen you can prepare & pack snacks/sandwiches and drinks to take with you to the parks. Yes they allow it! We even provide you with a cooler & ice packs if you choose to use one.  Groceries can be purchased online and delivered to the home or purchased at the local grocery store within walking distance.

Tip: Freeze water/juice bottles in the freezer the night before so it can thaw gradually throughout the day and remain cold.

Transportation

I don’t like being tied to a schedule. Especially when kids are involved. When travelling with children, it’s nice to leave when you need to leave. While Disney transportation is free, we have waited hours for buses and ferry’s, especially during peak times and when the parks are closing- everyone just wants to get home.  We always search the internet for the best price on car rentals and rent a vehicle. You can find discounts through Costco, and sites such as Hotwire. Sign up for reward programs like Alamo Insiders to get the lowest rate.

Child Equipment:

When travelling with children there are loads of things we need to bring. You shouldn’t have to worry about where your children will be sleeping and how to get them around.  Many vacation home owners provide free use of items such as cribs, play pens, bed rails, strollers and safety gates (we do!).  Some resorts have these items available at a daily cost when staying on property.

Tickets:

Of course you can purchase your tickets directly through Disney, but normally base 1 day tickets are not discounted. You can find some deals online through websites like Undercover Tourist, Mousesavers and even purchasing them through our Expedia counter situated at front reception when you check in.  Other discounts may be available through CAA/AAA, Military discounts, and multi-day tickets.

Don’t forget to read our guide of dollar store must have items to take to the parks with you. Being prepared in advance will save you money in the end.

We hope we have provided you with some insight as to why we feel staying in a vacation home is in many ways a better option for families.  Whichever you choose, we wish you a magical vacation!

After sharing all our money saving tips, what would you spend your savings on?

Another happy guest of Sunshine Villa Florida:

Very happy and satisfied with the accommodations.

SARAH H.New kent, Virginia

Our stay at this villa was very satisfying.

My kids were in love with the rooms and how comfortable everything was.

We would definitely recommend this villa and the owners.

We thoroughly enjoy receiving guest feedback. Good or bad – if we have fell short somewhere, we want to know how to improve!  Reviews are vital to vacation home owners, especially in a world where we are constantly competing with the large booking sites.  With thousands of properties to choose from, it makes it difficult to choose the right one for you and your family. Your review may give another potential guest peace of mind that they are choosing the right property.

We welcome you to Be our Guest at Sunshine Villa Florida, your house near the Mouse.

4 Ways To Beat The Orlando Heat This Summer

regal palms pool

Snowbirds like to visit Florida during the winter months to escape the cold in exchange for some Southern heat. But for people like me who are parents, we like to visit the parks during summer break when the kids aren’t in school. But that means sweltering humid temperatures. So how do you deal with the Florida summer temps? Well we’ve come up with 4 ways to beat the Orlando heat this summer.

Resort Pool

If one thing is certain about visiting Florida during the summer, it is that you’re going to need to spend some time in the pool. Luckily for those who stay with us, they will have full access to the community pool.  It features a zero entry for your little ones, a ripping water slide, and lazy river in a lush tropical setting.

Cold & frozen treats

Icy treats are the perfect accessory on a hot summer day. While at the parks, you can indulge in one of the many frozen or cold food and beverage options available to purchase. You can find some satisfying sweets or icy beverages dining locations and carts scattered throughout the theme parks. My personal favourite – Dole Whip! Another personal favourite is Twistee Treats. You can spot these cone shaped buildings scattered around the Orlando area and they offer creamy soft serve ice cream in a combination of flavours. Don’t forget you can also visit our onsite restaurant Frankie Farrells for a cool beverage.

Mickeybar

Indoor attractions & entertainment

When you aren’t soaking up the sun at pool, chances are you’re in one of the theme parks. Although many of the attractions and entertainment are outdoors, there are plenty of indoor options in each park that are out of the sun and into the air conditioning.

Many of the classic attractions at the Magic Kingdom such as The Haunted MansionPirates of the Caribbean, and, Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress, are perfect for visiting on a hot day. It’s a great way to relax and enjoy some of the old school attractions that you may not have experienced in a while.  Don’t forget our resort has an indoor arcade that you can escape to when in need of some A/C and some gaming fun.

Disney Springs Beat the heat

“Beat the Heat DJ Party,” offers visitors the chance to chill out and cool down. With a lively DJ, always-on fountains, and a playful combo of bubbles, hula hoops and beach balls, the party is a huge hit with guests of all ages. During this daily extravaganza, kids and adults are encouraged to dance, splash and simply take a break.  You can join the fun at the splash pad near Once Upon a Toy for a Beat the Heat DJ Dance Party!

Thank You Weber Family For Your Review!

sunshine villa florida

Our most recent 5 star review was left by the Weber family who checked out in June:

“We loved everything about our stay! The decor is modern and comfortable (even better in person than the pictures suggest). The kitchen had everything we needed for cooking. Our kiddos enjoyed the triple bunk bed and LOVED the pool (which included a waterslide and a lazy river). The upstairs master’s room was spacious and relaxing. We will definitely be staying again when we are in the Orlando! A pleasure all around!!”

Moonlight Kayak Tour Beneath The Stars

Floridians enjoy doing nightly activities as you can see in my previous post here with movies under the stars.  This weekend you can enjoy a guided moonlight kayak tour beneath the stars at Lake Louisa.

Guided by the light of a full moon, this paddle journeys from the beach of Lake Louisa to Big Creek and back. A different world appears at night, while a knowledgeable guide shares information on the history of the lake, and surrounding natural environment.

This paddle is very easy, and is enjoyed most by those who have kayaked or canoed at least once before. Please save your email confirmation for check in procedures. Participants will be most comfortable in clothing that can get a little damp. All equipment needed for the paddle is included. It is recommended that participants bring their own bug spray.

Participants must meet on the Lake Louisa Beach no later than 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time in order to complete your liability waiver. Please keep in mind it takes roughly 10 minutes to reach the beach from the park entrance.
